Flu
The flu causes such a wide range of symptoms—from aches, pains, sore throat, chills, fever, stomach issues, headache, coughing, and it goes on and on. Below are a few of the remedies practiced around the world to get you back on your feet and in tip-top shape again.
ayurveda: Digestive Flu Broth
This Ayurvedic recipe is great for the stomach flu. It has stomachic and nausea-fighting properties to help heal and calm the digestive tract. It also has a pleasing taste and is easy on the stomach for someone who can’t eat due to nausea.
1 cup broth
½-inch ginger root, minced
2 garlic cloves, minced
1 teaspoon turmeric
Heat the broth to boiling on the stove. Lower heat to simmer and add the ginger and the garlic. Heat for five to ten minutes. Remove from heat and cool slightly, until warm enough to eat. Add the turmeric, stir, and enjoy. Any remainder may be refrigerated for up to twenty-four hours.
herb: Flu Super Herbal Syrup
This syrup has every healing property for symptoms associated with the flu. It tastes great and is really fun to make. When my kids were young, this was about the only herbal remedy I made that they didn’t complain about when they had to take it. Set aside one hour before the flu season to make this up. It will last quite a while.
¾ cup elderberries
4 cups filtered water
1 cup honey
Put the elderberries in a pan and cover with the water. Bring to a boil, then lower heat and simmer for an hour or until the liquid is reduced by half. Remove from heat and cool slightly. Mash the elderberries into the water mixture. Pour through a strainer and discard berries. When the mixture has cooled, add the honey and whisk well. This syrup may be placed in a jar with a tight-fitting lid, labeled, and refrigerated for up to one month.
essential oil: Flu Roll-On
This roll-on is the perfect flu fighter. It is easy to carry, easy to use, and full of the therapeutic properties you need to fight the flu. Some of these components include antibacterial, antibiotic, anti-infective, anti-inflammatory, decongestant, expectorant, and sudorific agents.
8 drops eucalyptus oil
8 drops thyme oil
6 drops peppermint oil
5 drops oregano oil
½ ounce carrier oil (such as jojoba, sesame, grapeseed, or your preference)
4 drops vitamin e oil
Combine the ingredients into a small bowl. Pour into one or two roll-on bottles. Adjust cap accordingly and label the bottles. Roll onto desired areas such as temples, neck, back, chest, or soles of feet. This particular recipe is good for both digestive or respiratory flu. Keep in cool, dark area for up to six months.
home remedy: Old Mustard Foot Bath
Many home remedies are directed toward the feet to heal the flu. It is believed that heating up the feet will get the blood pumping throughout the entire body and will direct the blood to specific areas to heal, break up congestion, and get the foggy brain working again. This recipe targets the feet, not only heating them with water but with
